Fourteen months of successful trial led to the incorporation of the school on 21 March 1826 by the state of New York. The fact that the school attracted students from as far as Ohio and Pennsylvania is attributed to the reputation of Eaton. Tuition was around $40 per semester (equivalent to $800 in 2012 ).
